Sunan at-Tirmithiy كتاب الجنائز باب [ رجاء العبد ربه عند الموت ]
The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, visited a young man on his deathbed and asked him, "How are you?" The young man replied, " Messenger of God, by God, I am hoping in [the mercy of] God and fearful of [the consequences of] my sins." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "Whenever these two [states] combine in the heart of a servant [of God], at a moment like this, God will indeed grant him (1) what he hopes for and secure him from what he fears." Footnote: (1) Masculine pronouns are generally used in Arabic as a means for referring to both men and women when the meaning is left general and is not otherwise specified.
